Crisis Services
If you or a loved one is in need of immediate help or in the event of a life-threatening emergency, dial 911.
Always dial 911 if there is threat of suicide or of violence or harm to self or others.
Always explain that the situation is a psychiatric emergency and request the Mobile Crisis Team.
The Mobile Crisis Team pairs a mental health clinician with a paramedic to respond specifically to behavioral health calls. They can assess the person in crisis, work to de-escalate or resolve the situation, help coordinate services, and more. The goal is to avoid unnecessary law enforcement involvement, emergency department use, or hospitalization.
If the Mobile Crisis Team is not available, request a Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) officer.
APD partners with NAMI Anchorage and other community organizations to train CIT officers in mental health. CIT officers use a specialized approach to deescalate mental health crises with empathy and respect.
